H2Direkt: With 100 % Hydrogen Directly to the Customer

The transformation of local gas distribution networks to green gases such as hydrogen plays a central role in the energy transition. With their H2Direkt project, Energie Südbayern, Energie-Netze Bayern and Thüga are already leading the way in 2023. Together, they have converted an existing local network to 100% hydrogen for the first time in an 18-month field test in Hochenwart, Bavaria. Ten households and one commercial customer were supplied with H2 via the converted network. After the end of the field test in summer 2025, the project will now enter its next phase under the name H2Dahoam. Currently, the hydrogen is still being delivered by trailer. As part of H2Dahoam, work will therefore also be carried out on setting up green hydrogen production directly on site. H2Direkt demonstrates on a small scale, but in practice and with success, how the transition from today’s fossil gas supply to a hydrogen supply can be achieved. And in principle for all customer groups from households, commerce and industry.
