Flow – making hydrogen happen: A Hydrogen Program for the Future

With Flow – making hydrogen happen, gas transmission system operators GASCADE, ONTRAS, and terranets bw are developing a central pipeline system for hydrogen, thereby creating an essential component of the hydrogen core network. Together, the partners are creating a high-performance north-south transport route that will transport hydrogen from the Baltic Sea region via industrial sites in central Germany to the industrial centers in southwestern Germany.

The Baltic Sea location of Lubmin is the starting point for the project. Groundbreaking electrolysis capacities for hydrogen production are being created there. At the end of 2025, the first section of the network, with a length of around 400 kilometers, went into operation. In the coming years, further pipeline sections will be gradually converted in order to continuously expand the hydrogen core network. The connection to the Baltic Sea region also creates the infrastructural basis for future hydrogen imports.

Flow – making hydrogen happen is thus making a significant contribution to infrastructure development and to the national and international ramp-up of the hydrogen market.
