There are different processes for producing hydrogen on an industrial scale. The different production paths for the energy carrier are categorized by colour. It can be imported, but also produced domestically.

Transportation
The gas infrastructure offers enormous import, transport and storage possibilities for hydrogen. Germany is also an energy transit country and the central hub in the European gas and hydrogen network.

Hydrogen and its derivatives are core elements of the future energy system, as they are versatile and have the potential to make Germany a climate-neutral industrial location.
